SAND WASP REMOVAL PITTSBURGH

Sand wasps, also called digger wasps,  are similar in appearance to the larger yellow jackets (1/2 to 3/4 inch long), but  the banding is more uniform (not patterned) and alternates black and white or very pale yellow.  Classified as a solitary wasp, they do not construct co-operative nests in the fashion of yellow jackets, wasps, bees and hornets.  However, when an environment provides suitable sandy soil, large numbers will congregate in the area.  Each one creates its own burrow in which eggs are laid.  Golf course bunkers, volley ball courts and sand boxes can very often sustain large (several hundred) numbers of sand wasps.  Also attractive on occasion are gardens (yards) with particularly sandy soil.  If this insect is of concern, Bee Control employs safe methods to hunt, subdue and eliminate the sand wasp population.
